First, I’d just like to say that I LOVE the Christmas present that the boyfriend got me. It was a complete surprise and so thoughtful. It is a Wacom Graphire 4 6×8 pen, mouse, and tablet – for my future career in stick figure art. LOVE it.
So the boyfriend and I (+ cousin) are driving down to LA to spend Thanksgiving with the bf’s family. We were originally going to take my car but it has been deemed unfit and is now in the Toy Shop for extensive…fixing…I hope. Toy Shop Jeff got me a deal with Enterprise rental ($135/week) so we decided to go with that. I was told I’d get something small, compact, etc. but when I arrived, they gave the last compact car to someone else (a Kia, which I happily passed up). However, the thanksgiving weekend madness did not bode well for me as they could not find me a compact car and instead, gave me an Ford F150. See below for play by play:
5:45pm – Sat in the monstrosity of a truck looking dumbfounded and worrying that I would hit something before I even got out of the garage. While adjusting mirrors and the seat, three separate Enterprise employees walked/drove by and laughed at me…saying, “that is a big ass truck.” (thank you for stating the obvious) One guy asked me twice whether I knew where the gas and break peddles were. I thought he was joking at first, but when he asked more seriously the second time, it became clear that I must have looked like a 5 year old child attempting to operate dangerous heavy machinery (which sadly would not have been too far off from my mental state at that very moment).
5:55pm – Attempted to drive home. Had to detour and take an alternate route due to my fear of the Beast (I was unable to make anything but right turns). Called Em to tell her I love her in the event that I do not survive the Beast. Actually she called me and I just called her back but since I was on the phone, I felt it appropriate to cover all bases, just in case.
6:00pm – Called Toy Shop Jeff to yell at him about the truck. He laughed at me and then proceeded to tell me how I should thank him for getting me a nicer car than what was originally discussed. Then I told him to SUCK IT because he should be paying for my rental since he is holding my car hostage, to which, he had nothing to say. He told me to stop by the shop so he can check out the car but I had to decline the offer as I was too nervous to stop the car on a busy street…so…I drove past the shop, waived, and continued home.
6:30pm – Arrived home and was ecstatic to find parking spaces inside the complex. Saved me from having to parallel the truck on a hill.
6:45pm – Walked Dopes around the apartment complex and saw an F350 parked a few spaces from my F150. It had monster truck wheels which made it so tall that my head barely reached its side mirrors. Did a little mental exercise to alleviate some of my fear of the F150 by walking back and forth between the F350 and F150 and comparing the size difference. Turns out my F150 is not so big after all….compared to ONE truck in the whole complex.
That’s it…for today. Another 6 days with the truck (2 long drives to and from LA). I am determined to overcome the fear of the truck! I WILL make the F150 my bitch by the end of the week!!
hope TDD had a nice thanksgiving
and that t for tofu! survived the long drive in that monstrosity…
