I was at the Maker Faire with some buddies this past Saturday and it’s pretty much a giant County fair for Nerds. There was even overpriced Funnel Cake and Turkey Legs!
There were some pretty awesome things there like giant Tesla coils, the combots (ala Battle Bots). It may look boring on TV, but when you’re sitting a few feet away from the actual ring and hear the clash of two 200 pound pieces of metal you don’t know how awesome it is. The whams and sparks of metal were really exciting. There was a life size setup of the board game Mouse Trap and fire machines there from The Crucible. There was also an area held by the Survival Research Labs. They had a knife bot that would stab around your fingers and had a video of their giant 2×4 shooting machine. We even saw the diet coke and mentos demonstration done by the Eepybird guys.
We even saw some well known people at the faire soaking up some nerdiness. Justin Kan of justin.tv and Jimmy Kimmel were checking it out.
Congratulations to Richard for his team coming in first place in the Southern California Regional MESA (Mathematics, Engineering and Science Achievement) National Design competition.
They built a working trebuchet…and will be competing in a statewide competition in June…Awesome!
I wish a large black man, representing Oakland, rushed onto screen at the end and kicked the crap out of both of you. Not saying I wish any harm to you or Leah… it just would have been funny that way.
This next game isn’t flash but is high on my list. Kingdom of Loathing is a clever browser based, multiplayer, rpg using turns. The graphics are lowkey(stickmen mostly) and it’s as much fun to play as it is to read the messages.
Mother’s Day @ IKEA
Shopping at IKEA is a fun day out for the whole family but this Mother’s day we make it extra special for Mom. On June 13, 2007 Moms Enjoy FREE blueberry cake and coffee.
Hopefully they mean tomorrow…cause that’s where I plan on taking my Mom.
