Manresa Madness

Filed under: General — chaser @ 12:46 am

What better way to end the day working at the office on a weekend other than a super fancy dinner at a 2 star Michelin report restaurant.

I will say this week has been pretty busy what with trying to finish up testing and looking for the best prius deals out there.

Thanks to Tiff’s hard work at Goog we were treated to a what I would consider decadent dinner at Manresa in Los Gatos.

While we were eating there was some kind of food critic or food consultant. He had a massive stack of wine glasses and was giving all these comments to the chef and sommelier.

The place is tough to find hidden in Los Gatos but the service staff was excellent. Ordering at the place is pretty straight forward. Either you choose 4 courses out of the courses of the day (so you can get 4 desserts if you wanted to) or you go with the 7 course chef’s tasting menu. They take into account what you are allergic too and what you won’t eat for the tasting menu so it’s pretty great.

We opted for the chef’s 7 course tasting menu paired with wines. The wait staff pretty much kept out of our way except to give us the next course and explain it or to refill your wine glass.

Below was the mouth watering line up for the day.

Course 1 paired with a Rose:
Petit Fours with Rasberry Gelatin (this was like a fancy gum drop)
Beggar’s Pouch (xiao long bao with crab and pear inside)
Oyster and Sea urchin in Sea Salt Jelly (awesome…just awesome)
Poached Egg with vinaigrette foam maple syrup, and other yummy shit (it was complex, rich, sour, sweet, salty, yum)

Course 2 paired with a Sauvignon Blanc:
Japanese Sashimi slightly poached with geoduck and citrus sauce (the texture and flavor were superb)

Course 3 paired with Riesling:
Mussel and Crab in pine broth (so so damn tasty)

Course 4 Chardonnay (at this point I’m feeling the wine so forgive me for the vague descriptions):
Vegetable Garden (there were flowers here but it was still good and some of it was cooked)
Black Cod with Butter Beans (you can’t ever go wrong with black cod)

Course 5 Pinot Noir from France:
Abalone and Fois Gras (smells soo damn good. Tastes good too)

Course 6 paired with a Cab from Italy:
Squab with cereal (barley) and fresh cranberries (the most tender squab ever)

Course 7 paired with Cab with merlot for me. Some other red for Tiff. (This is awesome, they took into account her preference, but still gave me the beef!)
New York Steak (aged 37 days) for me and Pork Belly for Tiff (It’s awesome they made something for each of us)

Dessert paired with a 10 yr old something
Caramel Ice Cream with Some kind of Bread Pudding
Apple crisp roll with Buttermilk ice cream and cranberry puree.
Vanilla Milk Skin with Milk Chocolate Mousse and fresh mandarin oranges and ice cream

Finish it off with a Cappuccino. Excellent. Thanks Amit.
